For AW16 Israeli born Central Saint Martins graduate Roni Ilan continues her slow and steady approach to
menswear design, with an eight outfit collection comprised of boldly minimal suits, shirting and knitwear.
Inspired by her personal experiences of motherhood, the idea of connectivity was first explored in Ilan’s
AW15 designs through a wall like fastening between outfits. Influenced by the teachings of Elizabeth
Haich, this season realizes the idea on a more dramatic scale, evaluating wider and further reaching
connections. This is depicted most clearly in a progressively boxy silhouette, where the peripheries of
outfits begin reaching out to one another. Central to this effect is a screening and revealing technique
where Ilan explores the idea of surface value, versus a deeper bond. This feeling is also echoed in the
unifying flood of print that washes over looks. Here, pattern is layered onto fabrics through both light
projections and screen print, to gradually unveil an inky depth. A meditative soundtrack of layered field
recordings and heartbeats reflect the rhythm of these patterns, to complete the scene
