Exclusive: VIN+OMI interview

What is? Who is? Vin+Omi?
Well let me first tell you a little about the fabulous Duo!

Vin + Omi are Fashion and Multi Media Designers who work internationally. Their fashion work spans film, television, music and one-off creations.

Vin + Omi have launched three high end fashion collections; Moth, Chrome and Amalgam. The new clothing label VO is their alternative clothing line which launched in 2013 which touches on the duo’s early background in nightclubs and current interest in urban art.
Studio Vin + Omi also designs products, public artworks and large scale projects and acts as Creative Directors on a range of  international projects and collaborations.
After seeing their spectacular collection for Spring/Summer'15 show called 'Rock'N'Roll Macaroon' at London Fashion Week, i was dying to do an interview with them!

Here is the Interview i did with Vin+Omi:

Can you tell us about your new SS15 collection, what’s it all about? Inspiration you had, as i get a good sense of club kid vibes from your previous collections?

We wanted this collection to be all about colour and FUN. Our last collection was very dark and intense and we wanted a bright explosive change for this one. For this collection we designed it piece by piece we threw the conventional mood board out of the window. This collection developed into a collection about expensive fun. Many of the sequin pieces took weeks to make and the prints are fun and accessible to all, but printed on the finest silks.

We see a lot of use of latex in the AW15 show, what came about using this sort of fabric? We know Pandemonia will be a big fan!

Our first collection was solely latex, as we are experienced latex fabricators. We have always kept some latex in the collection and work with other designers to include it in their collections. We love it as a fabric and will probably always have some in each collection.

What first brought the two of you together to create the fantastic duo you are today?

We both love fun, experimentation and both love to think outside the box. We spend as much time experimenting as we do making.

What part of the fashion world does your work and designs fit into?

The bold, the daring the non conformative. We have no desire to play the machine and go through the motions many fashion companies chose to do .

Who were the fashion designers and styles you fell in love with and inspired by growing up? Has this changed over time?

Jean P Gautier, Mugler, Galliano, Rei Kawakubo, but ANY designer who has an individuality and tries to keep it. We are also inspired by our wonderful team.

From your previous work, you have worked with Debbie Harry, Pamela Anderson of the many names. Who is that one person you would love to work with and why?

We have been lucky enough to work with most of the people we want to work with. Some we publicise, some we do private work with; depends on the person. It's crucial to us that we LIKE the person, band or project. We only work on projects with people we love or a project that feels right. We are not publicity driven.
What tips would you offer for people wanting to start getting into the fashion business and the design world?

Really stay true to yourself. The horrid fashion machine will start to pull and push you in different directions. Just say no to what doesn't feel right. Many designers say yes to everything which in the end dilutes them.

Now London Fashion Week has ended, What have you got installed ready for the next seasons AW? Are you doing any projects in between?

We have already started two of our next projects. We never stop !
