Spring / Summer 14 Trend alert

Comme Des Garcon S/S'14
Sportswear, florals and double-breasted jackets are some of the key trends in menswear for Spring/Summer 2014.
Predicting fashion trends is very much like predicting the weather. You never know what it’s going to be like until it hits you – or in other words, when the designers finally send their models out onto the runways either making you on the edge of your seat ready for the collection launch, or rather make you want to keep your eyes closed throughout the entire show.

With that in mind, a quick glance at the Spring/Summer 2014 menswear collections that were unveiled throughout the fashion weeks last year from around the world including Milan, Paris, London and New York. These showed an unexpected impression of the way a mans wardrobe should look this spring summer.

Sportswear and graphic prints are taking over in the concept design of menswear, from brands such as Comme Des Garcon and Kenzo.
How mens fashion is becoming more and more unique is changing the rules very fast. The way a mans body can be transformed by the body shapes of garments, such as Thom Browne creates a sense of femininity in his recent S/S collection showcasing men in skirt like coats and slim fit tailoring

Thom Browne S/S14

Back in Spring 2012 was the first season to mark a slight subtle return to femininity, with the lines becoming cleaner more chic and the silhouettes going minimal. In 2013, the sporty aesthetic continued to slowly but surely evolve into an entirely new boldness of casual-chicness. It’s the bold volumes, the hi-tech fabrics and the old-school 90's approach to styling to keep the sports fashion highly sophisticated, as one of the most prominent key 2014 fashion trends.

Solid Fabrics
The collection itself explored the ideas of structure and geometry. Silhouettes were sharp, box-like and industrial. using bold solid colours and fabrics create this amazing abstract vibe. Blocky patchworks are used with bold colour variations of burgundy, black, plume and shades of blues. Alternating fabric options in different degrees resulting in matte and shine finishes.

Sporty Minimalism
This season, Juun.J took on American sportswear.
This collection focusses on simplistic voluminous proportions and figure-skimming silhouettes with the colours of pure white, cream, ink blue marble print and cobalt blue. The
sporty minimalism is defined by relaxed silhouettes, clean shapes, little embellishments, all veiled by an overall sophisticated feel.
Minimalism is import.

The final word to drop in men's fashion is "athletic". From Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton to London's Christopher Shannon and Humberto Leon and Carol Lim at Kenzo, the influence of sportswear looms large. Even Gucci, a label more known for its haute rock playboy went tech-sporty with neoprene hoodies and a jodhpur-tracksuit trouser. In London, James Long's cycling-inspired show was one of the highlights, with its mesh, sweats and nippy zip tops. A new wardrobe is a must for this Season! Bold colours, block Prints, Leathers, mesh & Neoprene.
